TCS Hiring: Amid AI Fears & Tech Layoffs, TCS Hires For Third Quarter Straight, 4,258 Jobs Added In Q2FY27

Amidst AI expansion and infrastructure spending that has hit tech jobs over the past few years, the Tata Group-backed behemoth, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has turned hirer for the third quarter straight. In Q2FY27, TCS added 4,258 jobs, slower than 9,279 jobs added in Q1 but better than 19,755 jobs cut in Q2FY26. The company’s attrition rate stood at 13.3%.

As per the Factsheet for Q2FY27, TCS added 4,258 jobs in the quarter, taking its total headcount to 598,056 employees. These employees are of 149 nationalities and 35% of them being women.

Sudeep Kunnumal, Chief HR Officer, said “We continue to build a future-ready workforce through upskilling our employees and hiring top talent. Investments in learning and critical skills drove a 17% sequential increase in learning hours to 17.1 million. This quarter our employee base reached over 598,000, while attrition remained stable at 13.3%.”

In the Q1FY27, TCS had added up to 9,279 jobs to 593,798 employees.

Overall, in the first half of FY27, TCS has added a whopping 13,537 jobs. By end of FY26 fiscal, TCS total headcount stood at 584,519. TCS began its hiring cycle from Q4FY26, and has continued for third quarter in a row. It will be keenly watched if the momentum continues.

Although, TCS is still away from its 6 lakh headcount mark. The last time TCS held these number of jobs was in Q1FY26 with a total of 613,069 employees before carrying mass layoffs of 19,755 people in Q2FY26 and 11,151 people in Q3FY26.

That being said, TCS latest attrition rate stood at 13.3% for Q2FY27.

Furthermore, Samir Seksaria, Chief Financial Officer, said, “We continued to strengthen our capabilities through acquisitions, partnerships and investments in niche talent. In addition, we maintained strong cash conversion and industry-leading profitability, along with our focus on creating sustainable long-term value for all
stakeholders.”

Data from TrueUp shows that so far in 2026, there have been 633 layoffs at tech companies with 191,518 people impacted (682 people per day). In 2025, there were 783 layoffs at tech companies with 245,953 people impacted (674 people per day).

In Q1FY27, TCS posted consolidated net profit of Rs 13,884 crore, registering a growth of 4% from PAT of Rs 13,349 crore in Q1FY27. PAT surged by 14.98% from Rs 12,075 crore net profit recorded in Q2 of last year. On YoY, TCS beats earnings estimates.

Net margin came in at 19, while operating margins stood at 24% in the quarter. Net cash operations stood at Rs 14,190 crore, which is 102.2% of total net income.

Lastly, consolidated revenue stood at Rs 73,188 crore in Q2FY27, registering growth of 1.26% QoQ and 11.23% YoY. Revenue stood at Rs 72,275 crore in Q1FY27 and at Rs 65,799 crore in Q2FY26.
