IMD Weather Forecast October 5-10, 2026: Rain, Thunderstorm And Strong Wind Alert In 20 States
News
The weather across India is likely to remain unsettled this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting fresh spells of rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds between October 5 and 10. The change comes at a time when some parts of the country are still recovering from recent heavy rainfall, while northern areas are beginning to see a shift towards cooler conditions.
The latest forecast covers a wide geographical area, with weather activity expected across northern, eastern, northeastern, central and southern parts of the country. While rainfall may remain light or scattered in many locations, isolated areas could receive heavy showers. Strong winds are another concern, with speeds potentially reaching 60 km/hr in some pockets, particularly during thunderstorms.

For Delhi-NCR, the weather is expected to become more active from October 6 onwards. Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and western Uttar Pradesh could receive light to scattered rainfall between October 6 and 10, while eastern Uttar Pradesh is likely to remain under the influence of rain from October 5 to 10.

The change in weather could also have a direct impact on daily life in the National Capital Region and neighbouring areas. Rain during busy hours may slow traffic, affect road visibility and create waterlogging in low-lying locations. People travelling between Delhi and nearby cities such as Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad may therefore need to account for changing conditions, particularly when rain becomes intense.
Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab are likely to experience thunderstorms between October 7 and 9, with winds reaching around 30-40 km/hr and gusts touching nearly 50 km/hr in some areas.
Uttar Pradesh could see another spell of rainfall after several areas were recently affected by heavy rain. Eastern Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive rain from October 5 through October 10, while other parts of the state may also experience changing weather during the week.
Himachal Pradesh may see thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds between October 6 and 8, with winds reaching 40-50 km/hr and gusts touching 60 km/hr. Uttarakhand could experience stronger winds from October 5 to 7, while isolated locations may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Such conditions can make hill roads slippery, reduce visibility and create temporary travel disruptions, particularly during intense showers.
The weather activity is also expected to become significant across eastern India, beginning with Bihar. The state may receive heavy rainfall on October 5, followed by lighter rain, thunderstorms and lightning during the subsequent days.
Jharkhand is likely to receive rainfall between October 5 and 9, with thunderstorms and lightning particularly possible on October 7 and 8. West Bengal, Odisha and Sikkim are also expected to receive rain between October 5 and 10, although the intensity will vary across different locations.
Sub-Himalayan West Bengal could see isolated heavy showers, while parts of Gangetic West Bengal may experience winds of 30-40 km/hr on October 6 and 7. Odisha may see thunderstorms and lightning around October 7 and 8, adding another layer of risk for outdoor movement.
Central India is also expected to come under the influence of rainfall as the week progresses. Chhattisgarh may receive rain from October 6 to 10, with thunderstorms and lightning likely between October 6 and 8. East Madhya Pradesh could see rainfall from October 7 to 9, followed by rain activity in West Madhya Pradesh on October 9 and 10.
