SmartStream Launches MCP Servers to Bring AI Assistants into Collateral Management | LeapRate

SmartStream, a data solutions provider for global financial institutions, has introduced two new Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers for its Smart Collateral platform, allowing firms to connect AI assistants directly to their collateral operations.

The announcement, made on September 15, 2026, positions the servers as a way for collateral teams to interact with agreements, positions, margin calls and interest calculations in plain language, rather than working across multiple screens and systems.

According to SmartStream, the tools are designed to deliver instant answers while giving firms full control over any automated actions.

One server connects an AI assistant to Smart Collateral’s integration APIs, covering agreements, positions, margin activity and interest calculations, and can check a proposed movement against existing eligibility and concentration rules before execution.

Workflow actions such as creating or failing movements and issuing margin calls are opt-in and disabled by default, with firms enabling them individually. The second server provides read-only access to Smart Collateral’s reporting database, intended to let users get direct answers instead of compiling reports manually.

Jason Ang, Program Manager for Smart Collateral at SmartStream, said collateral teams spend too much time searching for answers and writing integration code, and that the new servers let firms use an AI assistant of their choosing while keeping control over data, workflows and governance.

SmartStream said the infrastructure can also support development teams by helping scaffold integration code and prototype automation workflows.
