Uber Deploys OpenAI Agents to All 30,000 Employees

Uber has made OpenAI’s ChatGPT Work available to all its 30,000 employees around the world after initially piloting it with 1,000 employees, OpenAI said in a Thursday (Oct. 22) press release.

ChatGPT Work is an agent designed to take on complex, multi-step tasks within ChatGPT Enterprise and deliver finished work, according to the release.

Uber employees will be able to use the agent for tasks such as researching information, preparing meeting briefs, creating presentations, analyzing data and completing workflows across applications, the release said.

The company’s developers and software engineering teams will continue using OpenAI’s Codex for software development and coding workflows, per the release.

“As AI transforms how we work, we want to give everyone the tools to innovate, solve problems and help shape Uber’s future,” Uber Chief Technology Officer Praveen Neppalli Naga said in the release. “Rolling out ChatGPT Work across the company is an exciting step toward that ambition, and I can’t wait to see what our teams build with it.”

OpenAI President and Co-Founder Greg Brockman said in the release: “Now teams across Uber can tap into our portfolio of frontier models and agents to take on more complex work, connect the tools they use every day and get more done.”

OpenAI began rolling out ChatGPT Work on July 9, describing it as a new agent that is designed for work that is more complex than a typical chat request. The company said ChatGPT Work can take action across the user’s apps and files; can spend hours on a project, if needed; and can produce sheets, slides, docs, web apps and other finished materials.

Bloomberg reported Oct. 9 that OpenAI’s enterprise business is driving the company’s gains in annualized revenue, which is expected to reach at least $70 billion by the end of the year, up from $50 billion at the end of September.

PYMNTS reported in May that OpenAI powers a driver-facing AI assistant that Uber introduced at that time to translate live marketplace data into positioning advice. OpenAI also powers a rider-facing feature that includes a voice interface that lets riders book in natural speech.
