“Businesses are facing increasing complexity and demand more specialized expertise from their advisors,” UHY chairman and CEO Steven McCarty said in a statement. “Whalen CPAs has earned an exceptional reputation by putting clients first and building lasting relationships that extend beyond traditional accounting services. Their culture, values and commitment to delivering a high-touch client experience align perfectly with UHY’s mission and our Next Level of Service philosophy.

UHY ranked No. 26 on Accounting Today‘s 2026 Top 100 Firms list, with $471 million in revenue, roughly 200 partners and over 2,000 staff across 40 offices. In December 2024, it received a private equity investment from Summit Partners.

“Since our firm’s founding more than 80 years ago, our success has been built on relationships, trust, and a commitment to helping our clients succeed,” Whalen CPAs president and CEO Lisa Shuneson said in a statement. “Joining UHY allows us to enhance those relationships by offering our clients access to additional resources, specialized expertise and expanded service capabilities. Equally important, it creates new opportunities for our team members to grow professionally while continuing to provide the personal attention and guidance that has always defined the Whalen experience.”

UHY has been steadily acquiring firms. In August, it acquired Michigan CFO Associates, strengthening its advisory capabilities, as well as Anderson, Lower, Whitlow in Iowa. Earlier this year, it added Larson Tax Partners in St. Louis, and RBT and CMJ, both in New York. In 2025, it added Sabino & Co. and Botz Deal & Co., both in the St. Louis area, and Tama, Budaj & Raab in Michigan.
