SMFG drives 62% quarterly rise as MUFG cites methodology effects


Japan’s three global systemically important banks (G-Sibs) reported sharp increases in risk-weighted assets (RWAs) calculated under the fallback approach for equity investments in funds in Q1 2026, pushing their aggregate total above ¥1 trillion ($6.3 billion) for the first time in two years.
