The Indian stock market is closed for a total of nine days in November 2026, of which one is a special Diwali holiday, another is for Guru Nanak Jayanti, and the rest are weekend holidays. However, BSE and NSE exchanges will be open from one particular Sunday afternoon to evening due to Muhurat trading on the occasion of Laxmi Pujan. The day of Laxmi Puja is seen as auspicious for investors to place their hard-earned money in growth stocks for potential future gains.

Stock Market Holidays Diwali 2026:
The stock market will be closed on November 10, 2026, due to Diwali Balipratipada, which is the fourth day of Diwali and celebrated by Hindu devotees in honour of the notional return of the daitya-king Bali (Mahabali) to earth.
Balipratipada falls in the Gregorian calendar months of October or November. It is the first (or 16th) day of the Hindu month of Kartika and is the first day of its bright lunar fortnight. In many parts of India such as Gujarat and Rajasthan, it is the regional traditional New Year Day in Vikram Samvat and also called the Bestu Varas or Varsha Pratipada. This is the half amongst the three and a half Muhūrtas in a year, as per Wikipedia.
Stock Market Holiday Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti
Another special holiday for BSE and NSE is November 24th for the celebration of Prakash Gurpurb Sri Guru Nanak Dev who is called as the founder of Sikhism for the Punjabi community.
He is celebrated as the first Sikh guru and is the most important Sikh gurus. As per Wikipedia, the festivities in the Sikh religion revolve around the anniversaries of the 10 Sikh Gurus. These Gurus were responsible for shaping the beliefs of the Sikhs. Their birthdays, known as Gurpurab, are occasions for celebration and prayer among the Sikhs.

This month, the stock market will be closed on November 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th, as they are Saturdays. While BSE and NSE will be closed on 15th, 22nd and 29th as they are Sundays. However, on November 8th, the market will be open for a certain period of time due to Muhurat trading.
