What’s wrong with the UK stock market?

In 2000, the UK stock market was the second largest in the world, accounting for 10% of the global total. Now, it constitutes just 3% and is either the sixth or ninth largest, depending on the source of measurement.

With an absence of growth stocks (technology accounts for just 1% of the All-Share index), an absence of issuance either from existing companies or new flotations, and a relentless stream of takeovers and emigrations, there is no doubt that the UK’s position will drop further.
