Apple Stock Rallies 28% In 2026: Why It Is Beating Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet & Meta Amid AI Spending Concern
News
Apple has emerged as one of the strongest performers in the US technology sector in 2026, with its shares climbing 28% this year as investors reassess the cost and potential returns of the artificial intelligence boom. While rivals are committing enormous sums to data centres, advanced chips and computing infrastructure, the iPhone maker is benefiting from a different investment narrative built around cash generation, consumer demand and relatively measured AI spending.
Apple Stock Rallies 28% In 2026 As Investors Favour Cash Flows Over AI Spending
According to a Bloomberg report, Apple has become the largest contributor to the S&P 500 Index’s 12% advance this year. The company has also outperformed the other members of the Magnificent Seven, reversing its relatively weak performance in 2025, when several of its mega-cap technology peers did better.

Apple Vs Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet And Meta
The difference between Apple and its technology rivals lies partly in their investment strategies. Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet and Meta Platforms have announced substantial spending plans to expand their AI computing capacity.
Apple’s approach is comparatively focused on integrating AI into its consumer devices and software ecosystem. Instead of competing directly with cloud companies to build large-scale computing infrastructure, it can use AI to enhance the features and functionality of products already used by millions of customers.
This distinction has become more important as markets grow less tolerant of uncertainty surrounding AI-related spending. Heavy capital expenditure can weigh on free cash flow in the near term, while questions about financing, leverage and the timing of returns can make valuations more vulnerable to changes in investor sentiment.
Apple’s established business model offers a different proposition. Its earnings are supported by iPhone sales, services, wearables and a large installed base of users. These businesses provide recurring sources of revenue and cash generation, helping the company maintain its appeal when investors become more selective about technology stocks.
Apple Outperforms As Semiconductor Stocks Face Pressure
The contrast between Apple and the wider AI trade became particularly visible during the recent weakness in semiconductor shares. The Bloomberg report said the SOX semiconductor index declined by more than 11% last week, marking its steepest weekly fall since April 2025. An index tracking the Magnificent Seven also dropped 3.1% over the same period.
Apple, meanwhile, gained 2% after the company described demand for its new foldable iPhone Duo as “nothing short of extraordinary”, according to the report. The response underlined the importance of its product business in supporting investor confidence, even as parts of the technology sector face questions about the sustainability of AI investment.
The difference does not mean Apple is disconnected from the artificial intelligence opportunity. The company is expected to continue introducing AI-enabled features across its ecosystem. However, its commercial opportunity is more closely linked to making its devices and services more attractive to consumers than to selling computing capacity to businesses developing AI models.
Apple Stock Valuation Reaches Levels Last Seen In 2008
Despite its strong performance, Apple’s rising valuation is becoming an important consideration for investors. According to Bloomberg Intelligence data cited in the report, the stock is trading at 36 times estimated earnings over the past 12 months, its highest valuation multiple since January 2008.
