Nest Wealth names senior portfolio manager as chief investment and growth officer
Moving beyond the 60/40 portfolio
In his new role, Tascatan will lead the development of Nest Wealth’s investment strategy and asset allocation framework.
The appointment coincides with a broader evolution of the firm’s investment offering, drawing on institutional asset-allocation principles and reframing how portfolios are built for retail Canadian investors.
Central to this shift is a departure from the traditional 60/40 mix of equities and fixed income. Nest Wealth is introducing a dedicated allocation to liquid alternatives alongside its standard asset classes, with each alternative strategy assigned a defined role as a portfolio enhancer, diversifier or inflation protector.
The approach draws on the Total Portfolio Approach employed by leading institutional investors, where every holding is evaluated by its contribution to the overall portfolio rather than in isolation. The move reflects a broader trend in the Canadian wealth management industry, where advisors have increasingly explored alternative allocations as a way to build more resilient client portfolios.
“Our focus is on building resilient portfolios that emphasize quality, stability and managing downside risk,” said Sean Tascatan, Chief Investment and Growth Officer, Nest Wealth Asset Management. “We believe long-term investing means diversifying across sources of risk rather than relying on broad market exposure or chasing short-term results, and that discipline will remain central to how we serve our clients.”
