Jana Kramer Reveals Soaring L.A. Prices Pushed Her Family To Move to Nashville

“One Tree Hill” star Jana Kramer has opened up about the steep cost of living that pushed her to leave Los Angeles behind, confessing that she couldn’t afford the kind of home and neighborhood she wanted for her children.

The 42-year-old actress and country singer, who has since relocated to Nashville, TN, explained that her decision to relocate was rooted in a desire to give her children the same experiences she enjoyed growing up in Michigan.

While speaking to Fox News Digital, Kramer recalled struggling to find a property that offered enough outdoor space for her family while she was living in Studio City, CA.

At the time, she was raising her two older children and hoping to find a larger home with a spacious backyard in a neighborhood where they could spend more time outdoors.

However, the price of housing in certain Los Angeles neighborhoods made that difficult.

“I remember being in Studio City with the two kids, and we couldn’t afford to have a bigger place with a bigger backyard and neighborhoods like that. Again, we just couldn’t afford certain neighborhoods and, for me, Tennessee has just always been a place that every time I land, my nervous system just like relaxes, it feels calm,” she told the outlet.

Her preference for Nashville stems from her childhood in Michigan, where some of her fondest memories involved spending afternoons outside with neighborhood friends. She noted that she wants her kids to have the same “upbringing.”

Kramer recalled moving freely between friends’ houses and remaining outdoors until evening, an experience she wanted her own children to have.

Now, she says, that vision has become a reality.

Since relocating to Tennessee, Kramer has enjoyed watching her children ride their bicycles and visit friends who live nearby.

She revealed that she spends her days watching her kids play “on their bikes and going to their friends houses,” adding “it just makes me feel like home.”

“I love it here. You can always go back. You can always go to Hollywood, but things have changed so much with self-tapes, which I actually don’t love, but you can. It’s a plane away,” she said.

The move has also allowed Kramer to maintain her entertainment career without living in Hollywood full time.

She pointed to the growing use of self-taped auditions as one of the changes that has made it easier for actors to pursue roles while living outside Los Angeles.

While Kramer admitted that she isn’t particularly fond of recording auditions herself, she noted that traveling to Hollywood remains an option whenever necessary.

Kramer shares daughter Jolie and son Jace with her former husband, Mike Caussin. She also has a younger son, Roman, with her husband, Allan Russell.

The actress discussed her family’s move while promoting her upcoming film, “The One,” which follows an 18-year-old facing homelessness after aging out of the foster care system.

Kramer told the outlet that she was drawn to the movie’s emotional storyline, particularly its exploration of faith and the difficulties faced by young people without stable housing.

“I remember reading the script and just, I love a complicated story,  you know, I think it’s always fun to play those roles because life is complex, but I loved the story behind it. I loved the faith element. It wasn’t completely thrown in your face, but it was a beautiful thread throughout the movie. And it just had a lot of heart to it. And so I felt that in the movie, and then I felt that pain that everyone was going through. And so, I just really wanted to be a part of telling that story,” she said.

“The One” is scheduled to premiere in theaters nationwide on Nov. 5, during National Homeless Youth Awareness Month.
