PAX Enlists Wink’s Face and Palm Checkout at the Point of Sale – Digital Transactions
Point-of-sale terminal maker PAX Technology Inc. says it is enabling a deeper integration of Wink’s biometric checkout technology into many PAX POS devices.
The integration means merchants that use the PAX PxRetailer and PxDesigner applications will be able to add Wink’s biometric enrollment and checkout capabilities to their PAX devices. PxRetailer is meant for enterprise and multilane locations and PxDesigner lets users customize what appears on the payment device and how the customer interacts with it. PAX says there is no separate biometrics integration to compete with the Wink technology.
The Wink integration assumes a customer enrolls once, either through a merchant’s Web site or app. Then, the customer can be recognized at checkout with any camera-enabled PAX POS device. Wink supports facial or palm recognition with PAX devices.

All detections are screened for liveness to confirm a real and present individual and not a photo or mask. There are no changes to the payment transaction flow.
PAX envisions four applications for the biometric-enabled devices, including quick-serve restaurants as a way to confirm an order pickup, in hospitality as a way to authenticate a payment without handing over a card or room key, in retail to recognize loyalty members, and at venues where season-ticket holders can be recognized or as an age-verification tool.
PAX says the Wink utility works with all of its camera-equipped devices, including its A920 Pro PCI 7 mobile devices, which launched in April.
Among other clients of Plano, Texas-based Wink are Paze, the digital wallet from Early Warning Services LLC, and the Clover POS system from Fiserv Inc.
