Fraud probe and family rift tighten grip on former MP Raj Grewal

Earlier this year, Grewal voluntarily surrendered his law licence as the LSO launched a formal investigation into alleged mortgage and trust fund misconduct, coming amid Ontario’s escalating enforcement actions against mortgage fraud in 2025 and 2026.

In September, the regulator escalated further, filing to seize all RSG Law accounts, client files, and safe-deposit boxes. Only $340,303 remains in the firm’s accounts, according to the LSO’s notice of application.

Peel Regional Police confirmed on October 9, a criminal investigation into “multiple” allegations of fraud and breach of trust at RSG Law, part of Ontario’s mounting mortgage fraud and trust account enforcement actions.

Grewal’s lawyer Simon Bieber maintains his client denies wrongdoing, is co-operating with the LSO, and “looks forward to continuing his defence,” adding that Grewal is “working diligently to resolve all outstanding litigation in a manner that is fair to all involved.”

Receivership and a father-in-law’s allegations

The legal crisis has also engulfed Grewal’s real estate arm. RSG Mayfield Inc., of which he is sole director and officer, was placed into receivership after defaulting on a $26,269,753.66 loan secured against an undeveloped Mayfield Road residential site, according to Insolvency Insider Canada.
