Cash App Users With Approved Claims Set To Receive Payments This Month From Security Settlement

Approved claimants in a class-action settlement involving Cash App and its parent company, Block Inc. (NYSE: XYZ), are expected to receive compensation during October 2026.

The official settlement website, updated in late September, states that the review of claim deficiencies and appeals is complete and that distributions to approved claims will be issued this month.

The case, titled Salinas, et al. v. Block, Inc. and Cash App Investing, LLC (Case No. 22-cv-04823 in the US District Court for the Northern District of California), resolved allegations that the companies were negligent and failed to meet obligations to users.

The claims centered on two security incidents: one disclosed by Cash App Investing in April 2022 involving a former employee’s unauthorized access to account data, and another disclosed by Block in October 2023 in which an unauthorized party accessed certain accounts linked to recycled phone numbers.

The lawsuit also addressed alleged unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals and transfers, as well as issues with complaint and error-resolution processes for Cash App accounts and linked accounts between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024.

Block and Cash App Investing denied the allegations and any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement, which received final court approval on March 27, 2025.

Only current and former Cash App users who experienced unauthorized access to their accounts or personal information, or who suffered qualifying fraudulent activity or error-resolution problems during the covered period, could participate.

Eligibility required submission of a timely and valid claim form by the November 18, 2024, deadline.

New claims are no longer accepted.

Roughly 40,380 claims were approved out of more than 667,000 filed.

Those approved claims have been valued at approximately $5.6 million so far, producing an average payout in the range of roughly $139 before final adjustments, though individual amounts vary widely based on documented losses.

Compensation categories include reimbursement of up to $2,500 for documented out-of-pocket losses fairly traceable to the incidents—such as certain bank fees, credit-related costs, or travel expenses—plus up to three hours of lost time valued at $25 per hour (a maximum of $75), and unreimbursed transaction losses.

The $2,500 figure is a cap on eligible expenses rather than a guaranteed payment; actual awards depend on approved documentation, the total number of valid claims, and remaining funds after administrative costs, attorney fees, and other deductions from the $15 million settlement fund.

Payments are being issued through methods that may include paper checks, prepaid cards, Venmo, or Zelle, depending on claimant preferences indicated on their original forms.

This settlement is distinct from several other recent actions involving Block and Cash App.

These include a separate Consumer Financial Protection Bureau enforcement order involving up to $120 million in consumer redress (with payments already underway since June 2026 and no claim form required), a $45 million multistate settlement with attorneys general that does not create a direct consumer fund, and a smaller Washington-state class action over referral text messages.

Users who did not file a claim in the security settlement by the 2024 deadline will not receive payments from this particular fund.

Individuals who previously submitted claims and believe they were approved should monitor the official website and their email or mail for payment details. Those with questions can contact the settlement administrator. For the most current information and primary documentation, check out the official Cash App Security Settlement info page.
