Retail Payments up 5.7% in Canada and other Digital Transactions News briefs from 10/6/26 – Digital Transactions
- Canadian consumers made 26.7 billion retail payments in 2025 totaling $12.9 trillion, up 5.7% in value over 2024, according to the Canadian Payment Methods and Trends Report released Tuesday by Payments Canada.
- Point-of-sale system maker NCR Voyix Corp. said its new integration with TruAge, a digital age-verification service, will help its U.S. customers verify age, identify fake or expired IDs, and check purchase limits by scanning a physical or digital driver’s license.
- Block Inc.’s Square point-of-sale technology unit said Pike Place Fish Market in Seattle has opted to use Square as its commerce platform.
- Toast Inc. updated its Toast IQ platform with Toast IQ Team, a labor management tool for restaurant and retail operators. It also expanded Toast IQ Grow, its marketing service launched earlier in 2026.
- Open banking specialist Plaid Inc. launched new artificial intelligence models to help financial firms with their lending decisions, prevent more fraud, and reduce their payment risk.
- American Express Co. released its Amex Business for Agentic Commerce playbook to help businesses prepare for agentic commerce.
- In buy now, pay later news, Klarna AB said eligible U.S. consumers can use its 0% annual percentage rate financing for up to six months across all of Wayfair’s brands. Canadian Wayfair customers also can access the full suite of Klarna BNPL services. Closely related, Affirm Holdings Inc. said Ant International is making Affirm’s BNPL options available to U.S. merchants on Ant’s Antom platform.
- CardFlight Inc., a 13-year-old company, changed its legal and operating name to SwipeSimple Inc., a reflection of its main product. More than 125,000 merchants use the SwipeSimple point-of-sale applications, SwipeSimple said.
- Payments provider Authvia announced it has received a patent on technology that links human authorization with payment transactions executed via agentic commerce. “Conversational Payment Transactions” is U.S. Patent No. 12,711,476.
- Money-movement technology developer Modern Treasury has applied to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to create Modern Treasury National Trust Bank, aimed at providing services related to custody and usage of stablecoins and fiat money. The bank would not lend money or issue stablecoins, Modern Treasury says.
