OpenAI Enables ChatGPT to Answer With Visuals
ChatGPT is getting a new user interface that enables it to include text, visuals and interactive elements in its responses to users’ questions, OpenAI said in a Wednesday (Oct. 7) press release.
The new Intelligent UI is included in GPT-6 in ChatGPT, a new model that is rolling out to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise tiers Wednesday, and to Free and Go tiers Thursday (Oct. 8), according to the release.
With Intelligent UI, ChatGPT can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and interactive experiences in its responses. Potential interactive experiences include a calculator, a bill splitter and a game, per the release.

“The format depends on what you’re asking,” OpenAI said in the release. “A comparison might work best side by side. An explanation might be easier to understand through an interactive diagram. And when a simple text answer is the most useful response, ChatGPT can give you that.”
Other features of GPT-6 for ChatGPT include the ability to begin answering while it continues to think. This means the model delivers answers faster, while still providing answers that are as cohesive as those written all at once, according to the release.
In addition, GPT-6 provides better answers to questions that require a web search. It is better at deciding when to look something up, and more reliable in finding information that supports its answer, per the release.
“Intelligent UI is a step toward a ChatGPT that can shape an interface around what you’re trying to do,” OpenAI said in the release. “Over time, we want ChatGPT to create more of the interfaces people need for everyday tasks. You should be able to describe what you want to accomplish and work with an experience built around it.”
OpenAI said in the release that more than 1.2 billion people now use ChatGPT each week.
The PYMNTS Intelligence report “The Millennial Shopping Map: How AI, Search and Stores Compete Before Checkout” found that for 41% of millennials, ChatGPT is the starting point for product discovery. Only Google, which is used by 57% of millennials, is ranked higher.
OpenAI announced Monday (Oct. 5) that it is making advertisements within ChatGPT more visual and measurable. On Thursday (Oct. 1), the company added a virtual try-on feature to ChatGPT.
