News

If you have any bank-related work lined up for the coming week, the timing of your branch visit could matter. October 5 to October 9, 2026 will largely be regular working days for banks, while the weekend will bring consecutive branch closures across India.

Bank Holiday Alert: Banks To Remain Shut Next Week; Check Dates

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar shows that banks will remain closed on Saturday, October 10, as it is the second Saturday of the month, followed by the regular Sunday holiday on October 11. Customers in Bengaluru and Kolkata will also see a holiday on October 10 for Mahalaya Amavasya.

Bank Holiday Next Week

There are no nationwide bank holidays scheduled between Monday, October 5 and Friday, October 9. Bank branches are therefore expected to operate normally during these five days, apart from any separate state or local holiday that may apply.

For customers who need to visit a branch for cash-related work, documentation, account services or other in-person banking requirements, the five-day working window offers an opportunity to complete such tasks before the weekend closures.

Banks Holidays in October

The banking schedule changes from October 10. All bank branches across India will remain closed on the second Saturday. In Bengaluru and Kolkata, the closure will also coincide with the Mahalaya Amavasye holiday.

Banks will remain closed the following day, October 11, as it is Sunday. This means customers will have two consecutive days without regular physical branch services.

However, the closure of bank branches does not generally mean that all banking services stop. Online banking, mobile banking and UPI-based transactions are generally available even on bank holidays, depending on the service and the respective bank.

October 3 Bank Holiday: Are Banks Open Today?

For customers planning a bank visit today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, is generally a working Saturday. It is the first Saturday of the month, and banks normally operate on the first, third and fifth Saturdays.

The standard banking calendar provides for branch closures on the second and fourth Saturdays, while Sundays remain weekly holidays. Customers should still verify their local branch schedule because state-specific holidays can result in additional closures.

With the next nationwide closure falling on October 10, customers with pending branch work have the October 5-9 period to plan their visits before the weekend break.
