Coinbase Clearing Registered as DCO by CFTC
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) registered Coinbase Clearing LLC as a derivatives clearing organisation (DCO) on 28 September 2026. The CFTC’s register lists the entity as DCO number 64361 and records the remark: “Registered by Commission order; permitted to clear fully collateralized futures, options on futures, and swaps.”
The registration gives Coinbase a full derivatives chain under its own entities: the futures commission merchant (FCM) Coinbase Financial Markets, Inc., the designated contract market (DCM) Coinbase Derivatives, LLC, and now the clearinghouse. Coinbase calls the new entity the first USDC-native clearinghouse, with USDC collateral and 24/7 settlement, and says it can now create and settle fully collateralised contracts directly.

The scope appears narrow. The register remark refers to fully collateralised products. According to Coinbase, margined derivatives and its upcoming single-stock perpetuals stay with existing partners, so the new clearinghouse does not replace those arrangements. Coinbase’s announcement gives no launch date and names no first products.
For FCMs and introducing brokers that clear or route Coinbase derivatives, a fully pre-funded clearinghouse with USDC collateral and round-the-clock settlement implies a different margin and funding model from a conventional DCO. Firms may want to map which of their Coinbase flows fall inside the fully collateralised remit and which continue to run through the existing partners, as that split appears to determine what can move to the new entity.
