Hanley Economic hires Learoyd as chief operating officer – Mortgage Strategy

Hanley Economic Building Society has appointed Paul Learoyd as chief operating officer (COO).
Learoyd joins from West Brom Building Society, where he was digital programme director.
His previous experience includes senior mortgage, proposition and transformation roles at Admiral Money, Pepper Money and Saffron Building Society, covering areas such as product development, digital strategy and operational change.
In his new role at Hanley, Learoyd (pictured) will oversee key areas of the society’s operations, ensuring its technology, processes and controls support colleagues and members while helping to deliver its wider business plans.
Hanley Economic Building Society chief executive Mark Selby said: “Paul brings a strong mix of building society knowledge, mortgage experience and a proven record of delivering significant transformation within regulated financial services.
“As we continue to develop the society, having the right operational foundations in place will be vital to how we grow while maintaining the high standards of service our members and intermediary partners expect.
“His experience will be a valuable addition to our executive team and I look forward to working closely with him.”
Learoyd said: “Building societies have a clear point of difference in financial services, but protecting and strengthening that difference means continually improving how the whole organisation works.
“My focus will be on helping the society build strong operational foundations, supporting colleagues to serve members well, and to deliver sustainable change without losing the personal approach that is so important to the mutual model and our members.”
Earlier this month Hanley Economic launched two five-year shared ownership mortgage products for foreign nationals living and working in the UK, with no minimum UK residency period.
