Housing Week Ahead: Fed Rate Decision, Construction Data, Pending Sales

The upcoming week brings a packed slate of housing data from the Realtor.com economics team, kicking off Monday with our Best Time To Buy report from senior economist Hannah Jones.

On Tuesday, senior economist Joel Berner examines builder sales incentives, following up on Wednesday with a review of housing affordability and construction conditions across major U.S. metros.

Wednesday also features the week’s headline economic event: the Federal Open Market Committee’s interest rate decision. With average monthly job gains exceeding 80,000 and inflation remaining above the 2% target, the Fed could institute its first rate hike in three years.

Thursday delivers another dense cluster of updates. Realtor.com senior economist Jiayi Xu releases the August Rental Report, while her colleague Anthony Smith analyzes the latest weekly housing trends.

Economic indicator releases on Thursday include updated mortgage rates, residential housing starts and permits, and August Pending Home Sales from the National Association of Realtors®, which will reveal whether buyers capitalized on recent inventory gains.

To wrap up the week on Friday, Anthony returns with a fresh look at the luxury real estate market, in a report highlighting Provincetown, MA.
