Kerala Lottery Prize Claim Rules
Lottery winners must preserve the original winning ticket and follow the official prize-claim procedure.
According to Kerala State Lottery rules, prize winners are required to submit their claims within the prescribed period. The official lottery documents state that winners should prefer their claims within 30 days from the date of the draw. First- and second-prize winning tickets have to be surrendered to the Director of State Lotteries, either directly or through specified banks, along with the required documents.
Prizes of Rs. 1 lakh and below may be claimed through District Lottery Offices or lottery sub-offices, subject to verification of the ticket. Agents are permitted to collect prize-winning tickets for prizes of ₹5,000 and below and pay the prize amount to winners, after which they can claim the amount from the department.
Kerala Lottery Tax On Prize Money
Lottery prize money is subject to applicable income-tax deductions at source.
Kerala State Lotteries’ official prize receipt documentation refers to 30% income tax along with applicable surcharge being deducted from prize money. The document also refers to the applicable agent’s prize/commission deduction.
Therefore, winners of large prizes should check the amount payable after applicable statutory deductions rather than assuming that the headline prize amount will be the final amount received.
