CME Group Posts Second-Highest August Volume on Record | LeapRate

CME Group, the Chicago-based derivatives marketplace, reported its second-highest August average daily volume (ADV) on record, with 29.7 million contracts traded during the month, up 6% from August 2025.

The gains were broad-based across asset classes, though interest rate products and metals stood out. Interest Rate ADV reached 16.7 million contracts, a 3% year-on-year increase, with U.S. Treasury futures and options ADV climbing 15% to 11.8 million contracts.

Within that category, Ultra U.S. Treasury Bond futures set a record ADV of 791,000 contracts, while 30-Year Treasury Bond futures rose 37% to 852,000 contracts.

Metals trading was the fastest-growing segment, with ADV up 48% to 1 million contracts. Micro Gold futures ADV rose 81% to 345,000 contracts, and Micro Silver futures jumped 286% to 63,000 contracts.

Equity Index ADV increased 7% to 6.8 million contracts, helped by a 78% rise in Micro E-Mini Nasdaq-100 futures volume, which reached 2.4 million contracts. Agricultural ADV grew 12% to 2.2 million contracts, with both Chicago SRW Wheat and KC HRW Wheat futures posting record volumes.

International activity also strengthened, with ADV up 10% to 8.6 million contracts, led by a 12% rise in APAC volumes.

Separately, BrokerTec’s overall average daily notional value rose 16% to $1.059 trillion, supported by a 27% increase in European Repo activity.
