As we are nearing the month of festivals, several states are expected to have school holidays during this time. The months of September, October, and November will be fully packed with multiple festivals, due to which back-to-back holidays can be seen.
These will differ based on the state and will also vary between government, private, CBSE, ICSE and state-board schools.

This is great news for students who can get some relief from the academic workload and fully enjoy the festival season.
According to the 2026 school Holiday Calendar, Janmashtami will fall on September 4, whereas Ganesh Chaturthi will take place on September 14.
Here is a list of common school holidays in September:

Maharashtra: The state will be celebrating Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra and Diwali, all falling in the September to December window. The Dussehra and Ganesh Chaturthi holidays will be 9 days long, often creating a non-stop, 15-day festive marathon.
Andhra Pradesh & Telangana: Their holiday calendars are for the celebration of Krishnaashtami (Sept 4), Ganesh Chaturthi (Sept 14) and Yaz Dahum Shareef (Sept 22), along with Vinayaka Chavithi and Milad-un-Nabi, adding the regular Sunday/second-Saturday breaks.
Karnataka & Goa: Schools here may observe a holiday during Ganesh Chaturthi. The schedules will depend on local regulations and individual school calendars.
Kerala, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Odisha, and Rajasthan: These regions may witness a holiday for Janmashtami on September 4.
