Barclays has hired Bank of America’s Mike Joo to co-head its investment bank alongside Adeel Khan, who has been one of four co-heads leading the business since 2024.

The move, which re-brands the senior-most roles as co-chief executive officers, is part of a bid to power up Barclays’ dealmaking performance while also cutting costs at the top of the investment bank.

Joo assumes his new role in early 2027, subject to regulatory approval. He joins with a two-decade track record at BofA, most recently as co-head of global investment banking. At Barclays, he will also take up responsibility for investment banking, while Khan continues as head of global markets. Both will sit on Barclays’ group executive committee.

The latest shake-up overturns a leadership structure introduced by bank CEO CS ‘Venkat’ Venkatakrishnan in 2024, which has seen Khan running the investment banking business alongside Stephen Dainton, Cathal Deasy and Taylor Wright. Dainton, an equities veteran who previously worked at Credit Suisse and Goldman Sachs, announced his retirement from the bank last month. It is not known whether Deasy and Wright will move to new roles following Joo’s arrival.

Bill Stenning has retired from his role as head of market infrastructure and UK public affairs at Societe Generale, according to his LinkedIn profile. Since joining the French bank in 2011, he has been an active voice on a range of regulatory and market structure topics, including over-the-counter derivatives clearing.

Bill Stenning

Stenning has represented the firm on a range of key industry committees, including at the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, and held nonexecutive directorships for key infrastructure bodies, including CLS Group and Paris-based LCH SA.

Starting his career as an accountant at KPMG, Stenning later spent time at Cargill and Chase Manhattan before becoming the founding chief operating officer of the dealer-backed electronic confirmation network SwapsWire, which was bought by Markit in 2008 and renamed MarkitWire. Shortly after the launch of the new service, Stenning was appointed COO for trading activities at SunGard (now part of FIS). He then ran business development at the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation before making the move to SocGen.

Francisco Oliveira has left his role as Societe Generale’s co-head of global markets after jumping from local rival BNP Paribas only two years ago.

Following his departure, Hatem Mustapha, formerly co-head of the markets division and head of equities and equity derivatives, has taken up the role of sole head of global markets.

Oliveira was tasked with accelerating SG’s fixed income business to balance a global markets revenue heavily skewed to equities. In the first half of 2026, equities still accounted for around two-thirds of the bank’s global markets revenues, as fixed income, currencies and commodities income fell by 15% compared to a year prior.

His departure also comes after a string of exits in FX sales and trading at the bank. John Estrada, former head of FX, left the bank in February and was followed in recent months by Ruchie Sharma, co-head of FX options trading, Mickael Koskas, emerging markets FX options trader and Mario Stoppoini, emerging markets FX trader. At least three of the FX team in New York also left the bank.

Her more-than 25-year-long career has included leadership positions across client coverage, strategy, business development, risk management, transaction banking and structured finance.

Between 2019 and 2024, he led Kalshi’s regulatory strategy, playing an instrumental role in securing its designation as a CFTC-regulated exchange and paving the way for its 2021 trading launch.

He has since worked as an advisor to fintech firms on innovation and regulation in financial services and recently served as COO and general counsel at crypto investment firm 6529 Capital.
