Meanwhile, a Canadian company has launched a new investment program targeting Canadian small and medium-sized businesses developing space and defence technologies.

MDA Space LaunchPad Ventures is designed to fund and accelerate capabilities aligned with Canada’s sovereign defence priorities and emerging market opportunities. The program has identified 25 focus areas for investment, with a particular emphasis on solutions that equip and modernize the Canadian Armed Forces and Allied Forces.

“Canadian industry has the business ambition, innovation mindset and technology talent to develop and commercialize next generation space and defence products and solutions,” said Mike Greenley, chief executive of MDA Space. “With MDA Space LaunchPad Ventures we are looking to unlock, accelerate and strengthen the country’s space and defence industrial base, reinforce sovereign capabilities, and ensure that the next generation of mission-critical and export ready technology is built here at home.”

The Toronto-listed company said participating businesses will gain access to the expertise and business ecosystems of both MDA Space and 49North, along with potential opportunities to join future programs.
