Gold rates in India dropped for the second day in a row. On Saturday, 24-carat gold crashed up to nearly Rs 29,000 per 100 grams, while 22-carat and 18-carat gold prices plunged nearly Rs 27,000 and Rs 22,000 in the day. On the other hand, silver rates in India are unchanged.

The performance comes after spot gold hits its weekly low to $4,560 per ounce after US Fed chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish speech at Jackson Hole. This has raised the probability of rate hike in September to near 50%. Meanwhile, spot silver dropped steeply by 4.5% to $66 per ounce after the speech.

Also, at MCX, gold and silver futures crashed nearly 2% each overnight. MCX gold is now around Rs 1,56,400 per 10 grams and MCX silver dropped to Rs 2,36,651 per 1Kg.

In his first major speech since taking the chair in May, Warsh warned that inflation has not meaningfully slowed and said policymakers need to see clearer evidence that underlying price pressures are easing, otherwise the central bank still has “work to do.” He reiterated the Fed’s commitment to returning inflation to its 2% target, which he described as a “firm and fixed” goal, and said financial conditions are not currently restrictive. His closely watched remarks offered greater clarity on his economic and policy views after criticism that his limited communication strategy had left markets with little guidance on the near-term outlook, as per Trading Economics.

Meanwhile, crude oil prices remained elevated. Brent crude stood over $88 per barrel and US WTI crude is above $83 per barrel. {live-blog}
