BSE to replace Wipro in Nifty 50 index

Mumbai: BSE shares are set to be part of rival NSE‘s benchmark Nifty 50 from September 30, replacing tech firm Wipro in the index, according to a press note issued by the National Stock Exchange of India on Monday.

Wipro, which has been part of the 50-stock benchmark since January 17, 2002, is likely to see passive outflows of $246 million, while BSE may see inflows of $741 million, as per Nuvama Alternative and Quantitative Research. The stocks see passive flows from all the funds tracking the index, as the funds adjust their holdings to match Nifty’s constituents.

BSE has gained 36.8% so far this year, and was up 4% on Monday, while Wipro is down 30.6% in 2026 so far, and fell 1.1% at day’s close.

“BSE Ltd (average free-float market capitalisation ₹1,40,879 crores) has been included in Nifty 50 index as the 6-month average free-float market capitalisation of the company within eligible universe is at least 1.5 times the 6-month average free-float market capitalisation of the smallest constituents i.e. Wipro Ltd (average free-float market capitalisation ₹55,930 crores),” the NSE said.


It further said, “Next two eligible companies namely TVS Motor Company (₹84,566 crores) and Divi’s Laboratories (₹82,930 crores) were not considered for inclusion in Nifty 50 index as the average free-float market capitalisation of two Nifty 50 constituents with lowest average free-float market capitalization (after exclusion of the company in Nifty 50 listed above) namely HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd. (₹65,666 crores) and Tata Consumer Products Ltd. (₹73,054 crores) was less than 1.5 times the 6-month average free-float market capitalisation.” NSE also announced changes in the Nifty 500, Nifty 100 and Nifty Next 50.
