Gold rates and silver rates in India are trading higher but with a volatile bias on Monday, August 7, 2026, as the international bullion market pulled back from its strong weekly rally. MCX gold price is currently marginally up but holds above Rs 1.52 lakh mark. On the contrary, MCX silver zoomed by nearly 1% to trade near Rs 2.34 lakh per 1Kg.

Spot gold is down by 0.4% to trade around $4,330 per ounce, while spot silver traded narrow to hold above $63.50 per ounce. This is due to sharp surge in crude oil prices by 1% each in US WTI and Brent Crude as they neared $79 per barrel and $85 per barrel.

Last week, spot gold surged 7% and silver rallied over 10% due to sharp contraction in US nonfarm payroll market to 23,000, which eased expectations of rate hike from US Federal Reserve in the upcoming policy.

Markets now price around a 44% chance of a 25 basis point rate hike in September, down from 67% a week earlier. Silver also held its gains even after oil prices climbed higher as uncertainty persisted over efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said talks with Oman were close to an agreement but denied holding direct negotiations with the US, despite Washington’s claims that a deal was imminent, as per Trading Economics.

US dollar stayed around $99.6 against a basket of currencies.

The trajectory for gold and silver this week is volatile.

Gold rates in India have rallied nearly 6% across carats in just 8 days of the month of August, while silver rates in the country have soared 5%. 10 grams of gold has reclaimed above the Rs 1.52 lakh mark in 24 carat, while the 999 purity silver is priced at Rs 2.45 lakh per 1 kg. Precious metals rallied after expectations of a rate hike in September policy eased, while a possible ceasefire in West Asia supported the narrative of cooling in inflationary pressure. In the week ahead, 10 grams of gold will test the Rs 1.60 lakh mark, and 1 kg of silver will also test around Rs 2.40 lakh mark at MCX. The trajectory, however, is seen to be volatile.
