The US stock market traded higher on Friday despite sharp decline in the nonfarm payroll data, which was released on Friday, August 7, 2026. Apart from jobs data, the unemployment rate which is also pivotal, stood at 4.1% in July 2026. Despite the unemployment rate missing estimates, Dow Jones surged nearly 120 points and Nasdaq outperformed with up to a 350-point gain. These economic data will provide further clarity on the stance of the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming monetary policy. As of now, market is expecting a 25 basis points rate hike in the September 2026 policy.

Ahead of jobs data, US stock futures are trading with sharp upside. The Dow Jones futures are up 71 points and the S&P 500 futures gained 21.25 points, but Nasdaq 100 futures have outperformed with over 168 points respectively.

Notably, Wall Street witnessed sharp selling pressure in the previous session. The Dow Jones index dropped by 464.02 points or 0.9% to close at 53,885.10, taking the worst hit compared to other counterparts. Additionally, the Nasdaq Composite index dipped mildly by 15.09 points to end at 26,348.35. Also, the S&P 500 slipped by 13.59 points or 0.2% to finish at 7,709.96 on August 6th.

Investors awaited the closely watched July jobs report for fresh signals on labor market conditions and the potential path of Federal Reserve monetary policy, as per Trading Economics.
