Chiefs’ Coach Eric Bieniemy’s Wife Mia Is Shot at Couple’s Virginia Home

The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has reportedly been shot at the couple’s Virginia home while her husband was attending one of the team’s training camps in Missouri.

Sources told ESPN that Mia Bieniemy, 57, was taken to hospital after the incident—while police officials in Loudoun County confirmed that a person involved in a shooting was being treated for “serious injuries,” but declined to reveal their identity.

A spokesperson for the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet that officers had arrived at a property on the block where Bieniemy and his spouse reside in Ashburn, VA, at around 7:32 p.m. ET on July 26. Loudoun Now reports that “at least one person” has already been detained in the investigation.

Bieniemy, 56, who is originally from New Orleans, LA, only signed his latest contract with the Chiefs in January 2026, having previously spent a year with the Chicago Bears. However, he previously enjoyed a lengthy 10-year stint with the Kansas City team between 2013 and 2022, during which time he helped them to win two Super Bowls.

The offensive coordinator was with the Chiefs at the second practice of their 2026 training camp at Missouri Western State when the incident occurred.

A spokesperson for the Chiefs told ESPN that the team was “aware of an incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family,” but shared no other details.

Police have not yet released any other information about the investigation.

The football coach and his wife appear to have purchased their Virginia property to serve as their home base after Bieniemy signed a two-year contract with the Washington Commanders in February 2023, with records showing that they snapped up the home in June of that same year for $1.8 million.
