Gold rates and silver rates in India crashed harder on Thursday, October 22, 2026, due to a weak global bullion market.MCX gold touched an intraday low of Rs 1,44,467 per 10 grams and is down by 1%. Meanwhile, MCX silver price crashed sharply by over 2% to hit an intraday low of Rs 2,044,460 per 1Kg.

Meanwhile, Spot gold is currently down 1% and struggling to retain $4,112 per ounce, while spot silver crashed sharply by 2.2% to trade around $56.6 per ounce. This is due to elevated crude oil prices which have gained fresh momentum, keeping inflationary pressures and the energy crisis high.

US WTI crude oil price rose by 1.4% to trade above $98.5 per barrel and Brent crude oil price surged by 1.7% to trade near $111 per barrel. Gasoline prices also surged 1%.

Crude oil advanced following a drone strike on Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah field that killed two people, while the US ordered some personnel and family members to leave American embassies in Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the US Federal Reserve is widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged next week, after Chair Kevin Warsh’s remarks last Friday did little to alter expectations for a pause. However, markets continued to anticipate a potential Fed rate hike in December amid persistent energy-driven inflation. The European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan are also expected to maintain their current interest rates next week. Although gold is traditionally considered a hedge against inflation, its lack of yield makes it less appealing when interest rates rise, as per Trading Economics.
