Mercer Advisors Completes Aspen Investing Platform Rollout

Mercer Global Advisors, an RIA with $110 billion in AUM, completed the rollout of Aspen Investing, its proprietary investment platform. The platform, which serves as the investing engine within Mercer’s broader advisory technology platform, centralizes portfolio construction, private market access and advanced tax management for over 43,000 clients.

Aspen Investing enables Mercer advisors and support teams to access its investment capabilities through a single portfolio management dashboard. This is meant to reduce portfolio costs while expanding advisor access to custom strategies at scale. Mercer Advisors CIO Donald Calcagni and the firm’s investing team, which includes over 125 professionals, oversee the platform.

Aspen Investing was built in collaboration with the advisor fintech Orion and uses UMAs to integrate strategies from multiple third-party managers, offering both public and private market strategies, into a single account. It integrates Aspen Partners, Mercer Advisors’ proprietary private markets program built in partnership with Opto Investments, which provides qualified clients with access to private equity, private credit, venture capital, real estate and infrastructure investment strategies.

The platform’s additional capabilities include direct indexing managed in-house by the Mercer investment team; advanced tax management, including daily tax-loss harvesting and a capital gains tax budget; integration of legacy positions, supported by Aspen Investing technology, to ease the transition for clients with unrealized capital gains; and enhanced reporting and risk monitoring.

The platform was developed to work with major custodians, including Charles Schwab, Fidelity Investments and Raymond James.

“Aspen Investing was designed to give every client access to the kind of portfolio management typically reserved for endowments and large institutions, delivered in a way that reflects their specific goals and circumstances,” Calcagni said in a statement. “It puts the full power of our platform in every wealth advisor’s hands, so they can spend less time navigating systems and more time delivering fiduciary-centered advice.”

In July, Mercer released Aspen 2.0, the second generation of its unified operating system. The system integrates data, workflows and communication into a single shared platform, enabling local teams to collaborate with specialists across the firm.
