Plus500 Buys Brazil’s Guru, Second Deal in a Week
Plus500 has conditionally agreed to buy all of Guru Corretora de Títulos e Valores Mobiliários Ltda, a Brazilian broker-dealer, its second purchase of a licensed securities firm in about a week. A broker-dealer is a firm licensed to trade securities for clients. Guru is regulated by the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB) and the Securities and Exchange Commission of Brazil (CVM).
Plus500 announced the deal in a regulatory news service (RNS) statement at 7am today. It will pay for Guru entirely from existing cash, which stood at over $860m on 30 June, with consideration payable on completion.
Completion depends on customary regulatory approvals and standard closing conditions. The statement names no approvals, gives no price or completion date, and discloses neither Guru’s financials nor its client numbers.
Plus500 says the framework lets it build a local offering that includes Brazilian stocks, futures, options and fixed income. It describes the purchase as building on its recently announced business-to-business (B2B) partnership with Nelogica and its presence in Colombia, and says it aims to give Latin American clients access to US derivatives.
Brazil is one of the world’s most attractive trading markets, and acquiring Guru gives us the licence, the experienced local team and the regulatory framework to thrive.
David Zruia, Chief Executive Officer, Plus500
Plus500 also says it will pursue further Latin American growth both organically and through acquisitions.
The Guru deal follows last Tuesday’s conditional agreement to buy Hedge Capital Markets Inc., a US broker-dealer that Plus500 intends to use for a planned US super-app in the first quarter of 2027.
