Byron Allen Pays $34M For 220 Central Park South Condo
Media magnate Byron Allen appears to have dropped $34.3 million on another condo at 220 Central Park South.
An entity linked to the founder of Allen Media Group bought a 36th-floor unit at the Billionaires’ Row supertall in an off-market deal, according to public records.
The trade comes more than a year after Allen, using the same LLC, sold a 45th-floor apartment in the building for a whopping $82.5 million. Allen, using a similar LLC, also appears to have sold another unit on the 44th floor months later, to cybersecurity founder Daniel Nutkis, for $36.5 million.
Developer Vornado Realty Trust first sold unit No. 36B in 2019 for just under $22 million. The seller traded the apartment two years later for $23 million.
Allen’s sum is significantly higher than the last purchase price, though without a listing, it’s unclear whether the upcharge is due to a renovation or other factors. However, the premium is in line with other trades in the building, including Allen’s. He bought Unit 45A in 2023 for $75 million and Unit 44B for $26.8 million.
The attorney who signed the deed did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Corcoran’s Cathy Franklin, who represented the seller in the previous deal for Unit 36B, and Corcoran’s Deborah Kern, who represented Allen in the sale of one of his other 220 Central Park South condos, also did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
A 2021 listing for the corner apartment describes it as having three bedrooms and three full bathrooms spread across more than 3,000 square feet. It also features floor-to-ceiling windows with views of Central Park and a chef’s kitchen.
Amenities in the Robert A.M. Stern-designed building include an 82-foot saltwater pool, squash court, basketball court, private dining rooms and a screening room.
Dubbed the world’s most profitable condo, 220 Central Park South has attracted some of the world’s wealthiest buyers, including hedge funder Ken Griffin, who set a new record in 2019 when he paid $238 million for the quadplex penthouse at the building. Three years later, billionaire investor Daniel Och sold his penthouse in the tower for $190 million.
