Mortgage Professionals Canada welcomes its 2026–2027 board
Mortgage Professionals Canada’s members elected the association’s 2026–2027 board of directors at Wednesday’s annual general meeting, with Kuljit Singh succeeding Maxime Stencer as chair.
Singh, who joined the board in 2020 and served as vice-chair over the past year, will lead an executive committee that includes Clinton Wilkins as vice-chair, Bhavna Bhasin as secretary and John Fucale as treasurer. Stencer remains on the executive as past chair.
Members also elected Ryan La Haye, Rachelle Gregory, Elena Robinson, Dave Driver, Heather Manna and Tammy Poirier to three-year terms, and Reza Sabour to a two-year term.
In his first remarks as incoming chair, Singh said his time as vice-chair had given him an opportunity to hear directly from members about the challenges facing their businesses.
“We will keep listening to members and turning their experiences into actions,” Singh said. “We will deepen relationships across the housing and financial sectors.”
He also pointed to the importance of mortgage advice as Canadians face increasingly complex borrowing decisions.
“Canadians need trusted advice, choices, and people who can help them navigate increasingly complex decisions,” he said.
Building on education, advocacy and broker promotion
Reflecting on his term, Stencer highlighted expanded practical education, broader consumer outreach and stronger relationships with governments across the country.
Those efforts included a new FINTRAC compliance course and micro-credentials covering borrowers in financial distress, mortgage suitability and appraisals. MPC also expanded its broker promotion campaign through Sportsnet and HGTV, while continuing its partnership with the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
On advocacy, Stencer said the association continued to bring housing affordability, access to home ownership and fraud prevention before policymakers. MPC held two federal lobby days, with two provincial lobby days still scheduled for later this year, and welcomed senior government representatives at every regional symposium.
“Our foundation has always been our members and our future will always be built with our members first,” Stencer said.
He thanked fellow directors and MPC staff for their work throughout the year, while expressing confidence in Singh’s leadership.
“Kuljit brings experience, commitment, genuine passion for this industry,” Stencer said.
The incoming board will also oversee the search for MPC’s next president and CEO following Lauren van den Berg’s departure. Stencer said a hiring committee will oversee the executive search, with the board reviewing the role, the association’s priorities and the industry’s evolving needs.
