Could old rent deposit records cause problems?

Hi, My query is the following for a relative: The situation he and his wife had a number of now ended tenancies all more than 6 years ago. His wife passed away about 6 and a half years ago.
However, they still are listed as ‘active’ and deposits are ‘protected’ with the scheme mydeposits. The deposits where all returned or subject to agreed deductions and since then the properties have been let and deposits where tenancies where managed and deposits protected by a managing agent as he has suffered from prolonged grief of his wife passing away.
Anyway, said relative is now trying to protect a deposit with mydeposits and the scheme states there is a number of allocations related to the old tenancies where as there should be just the one allocation relating to the new tenancy.
So he and I am afraid if he effectively has more allocations than the actual situation when he protects the ‘new’ tenancy will he inadvertently trigger potential compensation claims and/or fake request for a deposit return or possibly quasi creating new tenancies?
Can anyone suggest what to do?
