Prediction: This Is What a $5,000 Investment in Micron Technology Will Be Worth by 2028
Key Points
Micron Technology (NASDAQ: MU) has been one of the hottest stocks of 2026, but I think there could be a lot more coming. The reality is that the memory chip market remains one of the hottest areas in the stock market, and until there is relief in memory chip supply, elevated prices will persist. That primes Micron to thrive in one of the biggest, if not the biggest, demand waves in its history.
If you invest $5,000 now, I think it could be worth a lot more just a few years later. But how much? Let’s take a look.

Micron is thriving in today’s market conditions
The number of data centers being built and the number of chips being placed inside them have made it hard for multiple supply chains to keep up. Memory chips are arguably under the most strain, as every supplier in this industry has far more demand than supply.
Building new chip fabrication facilities isn’t an easy task, either. It can take years to build up adequate production facilities, and there’s also some hesitation from the chip manufacturers themselves. This demand wave isn’t likely to last forever, and if Micron and its peers overbuild, they could find themselves in a precarious position in the future, with too much supply.
Regardless, Micron is building new production facilities, but they won’t be active until mid-2027 and into 2028. So it will be some time before there’s enough production capacity available to ease the shortage. In fact, Micron’s management team estimates that it will be 2028 or later before there is any relief. That means the memory chip prices will stay elevated throughout at least 2027, but what happens beyond that?
Many AI hyperscalers have informed investors that it will be years before the build-out is over, and it could last through at least 2030. That means there will still be heightened demand, and even if memory chip prices fall, they will likely remain at a level that allows Micron to maintain high profitability. That bodes well for the stock, but where would that price the stock by 2028?
Let’s take a look at some Wall Street projections, as those point to massive growth ahead.
Micron is a screaming buy right now
For fiscal year (FY) 2027, ending in September 2027, Wall Street analysts estimate 89% growth to $245 billion in revenue. That would rank Micron among the largest revenue companies on Earth. From an earnings per share (EPS) standpoint, they estimate $156.53, up from the projected $73.46 in FY 2026.
Wall Street analysts have undershot projections relating to the AI build-out for some time, and I’d expect no difference next year. However, I’ll use the consensus estimate for this projection, which I believe represents a conservative forecast.
Over the past decade, Micron’s valuation has seen a lot of highs and lows due to the cyclical nature of its business. However, the average is right around 22 times earnings.

Using a 20 times earnings valuation to bake in even more conservatism, that would price Micron’s stock at $3,130 per share. Micron’s stock is currently just over $1,000, so this would represent a triple, turning a $5,000 investment into more than $15,000 by approximately this time next year.
If the demand curve for memory chips stays elevated, I could see the investment being worth more than $20,000 by 2028. That’s an incredible return in a relatively short time frame, making Micron one of the best bets investors can make right now.
