This Day In History:

On this day in 1179, the German abess and early naturalist known as ‘Sibyl of the Rhine’ passed away. In her lifetime she published several detailed treatises on nature, including highly accurate descriptions of aquatic organisms, trees, and medicinal plants. Some of her work, though dated, acts as one of the most thorough representations of biodiversity in Europe in the 12th century.
