Revolut Secures Sixth Global Bank License in Colombia

Revolut continued its global expansion by securing a bank license in Colombia, the company said in a Tuesday (Sept. 15) press release.

The license to operate (licencia de funcionamiento) from the Superintendencia Financiera de Colombia (SFC) is the last of the regulatory requirements Revolut needs to launch as a regulated bank in the country, according to the release.

Revolut plans to launch a comprehensive portfolio of financial products in Colombia. About 200,000 Colombians have already signed up for the company’s waitlist, the release said.

“Securing this license allows us to bring our cutting-edge technology and financial stability to a dynamic market, offering Colombians a transparent platform that puts power back in their hands,” Revolut Founder and CEO Nik Storonsky said in the release.

Diego Caicedo, CEO of Revolut Colombia, said in the release: “We are not going to just launch as a bank; we are connecting Colombia to the global economy, simplifying remittances and access to world-class products in one single place, supported by the infrastructure of one of the world’s most innovative financial platforms.”

Revolut now has six full banking licenses worldwide, including those the company previously obtained in the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Lithuania and Mexico, according to the release.

This year, Revolut also received conditional approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a U.S. national bank charter, was granted a payments license in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was granted an Organization License by the Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and AFP (SBS) of Peru, per the release.

PYMNTS reported Thursday (Sept. 10) that once it receives its approvals for a proposed bank in the U.S., Revolut plans to directly offer U.S. customers loans, credit cards and FDIC-insured deposits, along with access to stablecoins and cryptocurrencies.

When releasing its annual report in March, Revolut said that in 2025, its revenues increased 40% to $6 billion and its profits hit a record of $2.3 billion.

“2025 was another landmark year,” Storonsky said at the time in a press release. “We have built a diversified, resilient business that is profitable at scale, providing the foundation for our next phase of growth.”

“As we transition into a truly global bank, we are proving that our technology-driven operating model continues to drive rapid expansion and record profitability,” Storonsky said.
