Meta Debuts Subscription Services for Social Platforms

Meta unveiled its Meta One subscription program, according to a Tuesday (Sept. 15) announcement, as the tech giant moves to monetize its artificial intelligence efforts.

The new service offers plans for individuals, creators and businesses using the company’s Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI platforms, per the announcement.

“Meta One gives subscribers more self-expression features and AI usage, helps creators spend more time creating and less time guessing, and gives businesses new tools designed to help them grow,” the announcement said. “The core experience across our apps and Meta AI has always been free, and that’s not changing. Subscriptions unlock more specialized capabilities and expanded AI usage that go beyond what a free experience built for billions can offer.”

Meta One is launching with more than 50 features on the company’s social media and AI platforms, and there are plans to expand to Edits, AI glasses and other offerings, according to the announcement.

Earlier this year, the company introduced its “single product plans” for Meta One, including Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus and WhatsApp Plus, offering new features designed to allow for “more connection and creativity on Instagram and Facebook and more organization and personalization on WhatsApp,” per the announcement.

“Meta One goes even further with Core and Premium bundle plans, which combine the features from our single product plans with more usage of some of our most compute-intensive AI capabilities,” the announcement said. “This means more media generation with Meta AI, including creating and editing images and generating videos powered by Muse models, and more use of in-app AI tools like Restyle on Instagram.”

Meta One plans start at $2.99 per month for single products, $7.99 per month for individual bundles and $14.99 per month for creator and business bundles. There are also costlier plans for creators and businesses, including the $149 per month Expert and $499 per month Max, which include the company’s “highest levels of feature access and Meta Business Agent capacity for teams managing at scale,” according to the announcement.

Meta AI will remain free for everyday use, as “Core and Premium are for people who want even more creative freedom from our AI tools,” the announcement said.

Meta last week debuted a personal AI agent called Muse that is “built for everyone,” as it’s designed to be simple to use, PYMNTS reported Sept. 8.

Meta, Amazon, Microsoft and Google are collectively projected to spend about $724 billion on capital projects this year and close to $950 billion in 2027.
