HHRD Launches $250,000 Emergency Appeal to Support Families Affected by Devastating Nepal Floods
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Helping Hand for Relief and Development (HHRD) has launched a $250,000 emergency appeal to provide critical humanitarian assistance to families affected by the catastrophic floods that struck Nepal on August 26.
The disaster began when a glacier collapse in the Himalayas triggered a massive surge of water, ice, rock and mud through the Trishuli River system, devastating communities along Nepal’s northern border with Tibet. The floods have caused widespread loss of life and left thousands missing, while destroying homes, roads, bridges, and critical infrastructure. Current estimates indicate that the disaster has caused approximately $2.56 billion in damage, with thousands of families displaced and communities struggling to access necessities.
Urgent Needs on the Ground
As search and rescue operations continue, affected families urgently need food, clean drinking water, emergency shelter, hygiene supplies, medical assistance and other essential relief items. Damaged roads and bridges have made reaching many communities difficult, further increasing the urgency of the response. Nepalese authorities have mobilized thousands of security personnel and helicopters for rescue and relief operations, while specialized international assistance has also been brought in to support difficult rescue efforts.
HHRD has been serving vulnerable communities in Nepal since 2015, with ongoing programs supporting orphans, water access, livelihoods, healthcare and seasonal relief. Through its established presence in the country, HHRD is mobilizing resources for this emergency response and working to deliver essential assistance to families affected by the floods.
