BRICS Summit 2026: Will Banks Be Closed in Delhi on September 11? Check RBI Bank Holiday List

The national capital is going to host the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit and a holiday has been declared across all government institutions and PSUs in Delhi on September 11. However, the government-office holiday does not automatically apply to banks.

The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place on September 12 and 13, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
The summit is expected to bring together leaders and delegations from BRICS member countries. There will be heightened security and movement restrictions at some locations in the capital.

Are Banks Closed in Delhi on September 11?

As of now, there is no bank holiday in Delhi and banks are expected to be open on September 11th. The holiday announced ahead of the BRICS Summit is applicable to government offices and public-sector establishments.

According to the RBI bank holiday calendar for September 2026, September 11 is listed as a holiday in Jaipur due to elections within the jurisdiction of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation. Delhi does not feature on the list for that date.

Will Delhi Banks Be Closed For BRICS?

At present, there is no bank-specific holiday order closing banks across Delhi on September 11 because of the BRICS Summit. This distinction is important because a government holiday and an RBI-declared bank holiday are not necessarily the same thing.

Banks generally follow the holiday calendar notified under the applicable banking holiday framework. A separate order may be required for bank branches to remain closed on a day that is not otherwise designated as a bank holiday.

There is a historical reason for some of the confusion. During the 2023 G20 Summit, banks in Delhi were specifically ordered to be closed on September 8.

That was a bank-specific closure, the current September 11 government-office holiday. Therefore, the fact that banks were closed during the G20 Summit does not automatically mean they will be closed during BRICS 2026.

What Should Bank Customers Do?

Customers who need to visit a bank branch in Delhi on September 11 should check with their individual bank. Digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile banking and UPI are generally available even when physical branches are closed, although certain branch-dependent services may not be accessible.
