Ant International Secures Payment Institution Licence from Central Bank of Brazil | LeapRate
Ant International, a global provider of digital payment, digitisation, and FinAI solutions, has been granted a Payment Institution (PI) licence by the Central Bank of Brazil, the company announced on Friday.
The licence is said to mark a further step in Ant International’s expansion in Brazil, where it already operates through Antom, its merchant payment and digitalisation platform.
Antom currently allows merchants in the country to accept PIX, credit cards, and a range of alternative payment methods. With the new PI licence, Ant International said it will be able to strengthen both its local and cross-border payment capabilities in the Brazilian market.
Rodrigo Reif, General Manager of Ant International Brazil, said the licence would allow the company to offer more reliable and comprehensive global payment and account services to enterprises, platforms, and small and medium-sized enterprises operating in Brazil’s digital economy.
He added that the company intends to deepen its collaboration with the country’s payments ecosystem and financial services industry going forward.
Ant International describes itself as a leading provider of cross-border payments and account services, embedded credit and treasury services, and other FinAI and blockchain-based solutions, serving clients across Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
According to the company, its digital payment ecosystem processes more than 20 million transactions daily, linking 2 billion consumer accounts with 150 million merchants worldwide.
The new licence is expected to support Ant International’s continued growth in Brazil, one of Latin America’s largest digital payment markets, as the company builds on its existing merchant services infrastructure and works more closely with local regulators and financial institutions.
