GoodRx Covers Households and Pets in New Prescription Plan

Prescription platform GoodRx has launched a new plan that covers a primary member and up to four dependents, including children, adult family members and pets, the company said in a Thursday (Sept. 3) press release.

The new GoodRx Companion Family Plan offers healthcare savings that includes more than 250 generic medications available for free, hundreds more for under $10, and savings on dental, vision, lab and imaging services. It also offers the primary member access to $19 online care visits, according to the release.

GoodRx offers the plan for $24.99 per month or $16.99 per month when paying annually, per the release.

GoodRx President and CEO Wendy Barnes said in the release that families manage prescriptions and healthcare for kids, parents, partners and pets.

“Expanding Companion across the entire household allows us to support consumers in a way that reflects this reality,” Barnes said. “It also advances our strategy to make GoodRx a more central part of how consumers navigate and pay for healthcare.”

Together with these subscriptions, the company plans to offer Companion through GoodRx Employer Direct. When available, this will enable employers to subsidize memberships and help lower employees’ out-of-pocket healthcare costs, according to the release.

“Companion can complement existing health benefits by addressing prescription costs and other coverage gaps or extend healthcare savings to workers who are not eligible for traditional benefits,” the release said. “The expansion creates a new channel for Companion while giving employers another way to support healthcare affordability for their workforce.”

GoodRx introduced GoodRx Companion in May, describing it as a subscription service designed to provide predictable pricing for chronic conditions, taking multiple medications, or dealing with coverage limitations or out-of-pocket costs.

During an August earnings call, GoodRx reported that during the second quarter, its revenue dipped 1% to $200.4 million, and its traditional monthly active consumer base declined 12% to 5 million.

Executives characterized the decline in consumer base as a strategic transition toward deeper, recurring customer relationships as healthcare consumers face intensifying affordability pressures.

“Consumers are bearing more cost, facing less predictable coverage and increasingly need to know what a medication will cost before they reach the pharmacy counter,” Barnes said during the call.
