Popular crime franchise Mirzapur has made a powerful leap from the OTT space to cinema halls. Mirzapur: The Movie, starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma and Ravi Kishan, opened to a strong response at the box office, collecting an estimated Rs 24.75 crore nett in India on its first day, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk. The impressive debut has also placed the film among the biggest Hindi openers of 2026.

Released on September 4, the film has now emerged as the fourth-highest opening-day grosser among Hindi films released in 2026, highlighting the strong theatrical pull of the popular franchise.

According to Sacnilk’s early estimates, the Hindi version contributed the bulk of the film’s Day 1 earnings with approximately Rs 24.60 crore nett. The Telugu version added around Rs 15 lakh, taking the total India nett collection to an estimated Rs 24.75 crore.

The film’s India gross collection stood at around Rs 29.70 crore on its opening day, according to the trade estimates. The strong start is particularly significant as Mirzapur originated as a popular streaming franchise. The film appears to have successfully brought a large section of its established fan base from OTT screens to cinema halls.

The film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of around 42.81% across 11,135 shows on its opening day, according to Sacnilk. Footfall improved significantly as the day progressed. Morning occupancy stood at approximately 25%, while the night shows recorded nearly 62% occupancy, indicating stronger turnout during the evening and late-night slots.

With an estimated opening collection of Rs 24.75 crore, Mirzapur: The Movie has secured the fourth position among the biggest Hindi opening-day collections of 2026. The film opened ahead of Awarapan 2, which reportedly collected around Rs 22 crore on its opening day. However, it remained behind Border 2, which opened at approximately Rs 30 crore.

The top three Hindi opening-day collections of 2026 are currently led by Dhurandhar The Revenge with Rs 99 crore, followed by Toxic with Rs 55 crore and Border 2 with Rs 30 crore.

Mirzapur Franchise Makes a Strong Big-Screen Debut

Despite receiving an ‘A’ certificate, which restricts its potential audience to adults, the film managed to attract strong opening-day footfall. The familiar characters and established popularity of the Mirzapur universe appear to have worked in its favour.
