SIX Swiss Exchange and BME Exchange Report Strong Turnover Growth in August | LeapRate
SIX Group has reported robust year-on-year growth across its Swiss and Spanish exchanges for August 2026, with combined trading turnover rising 19.5% compared to the same month last year to reach CHF 125.9 billion.
According to figures released by SIX, turnover on SIX Swiss Exchange climbed 15.9% to CHF 87.3 billion, while BME Exchange in Spain saw a stronger 28.8% increase, reaching EUR 41.2 billion.
ETFs continued to be the standout performer on the Swiss market, extending momentum from July with turnover up 72.4% year-on-year. New ETF listings also surged 90.0% to 211 for 2026 so far, bringing the total number available to investors to 2,282. Allianz Global Investors joined the market in August as a new ETF issuer with four products, taking the total number of issuers on SIX Swiss Exchange to 37.
On the Spanish exchange, equities led growth with turnover up 27.1% to EUR 28.6 billion, while fixed income turnover rose 33.2%. ETF trading on BME also passed EUR 1.0 billion for the year to date, three months earlier than in 2025.
Index performance was notable in August. The IBEX 35 broke through 20,000 points for the first time on August 4 and hit an all-time high of 20,356.5 points on August 13, ending the month up 1.0% at 19,974.0 points and up 15.4% year to date. The SMI slipped 0.4% to 14,286.4 points but remains up 7.7% in 2026.
Gregor Braun, Head Cash Market Sales, Exchanges at SIX, said growth had continued despite the quieter summer period, noting the IBEX 35’s strong performance among Europe’s major indices this year.
