Planning a weekend getaway? Axis Bank cardholders can get up to ₹20,000 off | Personal Finance

Planning to turn upcoming long weekends into short holidays could get cheaper for Axis Bank credit cardholders, with MakeMyTrip and Axis Bank launching a series of travel offers running through March 2027.

The partnership is built around key long weekends, allowing eligible customers to get discounts on flights, hotels, holiday packages, buses, cabs, tours and attractions when they book through MakeMyTrip and pay with an Axis Bank credit card.

The offers will not be available continuously. Instead, a dedicated booking window will open ahead of each eligible long weekend, with the applicable offers displayed at checkout.

How much can you save?

For domestic flights, Axis Bank credit cardholders can get a flat 10% instant discount, capped at ₹1,800.

For domestic hotel bookings, the discount goes up to 15%, capped at ₹5,000.

There are similar benefits on international flights and hotels, buses, cabs, tours and attractions, although the exact offer will vary by category and booking window.

The biggest potential saving is on holiday packages. Customers can get an additional 5% instant discount, over and above existing MakeMyTrip holiday offers, capped at ₹20,000.

So, for example, a ₹3 lakh eligible holiday package could potentially qualify for a ₹15,000 additional discount, subject to the applicable terms and conditions. The maximum additional saving under the offer is ₹20,000.

Which long weekends are covered?

If you’re planning holidays around India’s upcoming long weekends, these are the dates covered by the programme:

  • Gandhi Jayanti: October 2–4, 2026

  • Dussehra: October 18–20, 2026

  • Diwali: November 7–9, 2026

  • Christmas: December 25–27, 2026

  • New Year: January 1–3, 2027

  • Republic Day: January 24–26, 2027

  • Holi: March 20–22, 2027

  • Good Friday: March 26–28, 2027

Don’t book too early just for the offer

There is an important catch for travellers: the discounts are tied to specific booking windows, rather than being a blanket offer available throughout the period.

MakeMyTrip said the applicable benefits, including minimum booking values and detailed terms and conditions, will be displayed on its app and website ahead of each go-live date.

So if you’re planning a Diwali, Christmas or Republic Day trip, it would make sense to check the offer window before making the payment rather than assuming the discount will automatically apply.

The partnership comes as shorter, more frequent holidays become increasingly popular, with long weekends emerging as important travel periods.

“Marketing is increasingly building around the right moment, not just the loudest voice,” said Raj Rishi Singh, Chief Operating Officer – Flights, Corporate, GCC & Marketing, MakeMyTrip, describing the partnership as an effort to offer value when travellers are actually making their booking decisions.

Vinit Bajaj, Group Head – Acquiring and Cards, Axis Bank, said the partnership was aimed at giving cardholders more value from their spending, particularly as customers increasingly use long weekends for short breaks.

For travellers, the key takeaway is simple: if you already hold an Axis Bank credit card and are planning one of these long-weekend trips, check the MakeMyTrip offer before paying. The maximum discount could be meaningful on a large holiday booking, while flight and hotel savings are more modest but can still reduce the cost of a short getaway.
