Magic Mountains by Glendon Cordell sold for HK$122,550 at Phillips Modern & Contemporary Art: Online Auction on June 3, 2026 in Hong Kong. Born in Tasmania, Australia, Cordell is an abstract landscape painter who transforms the Australian terrain into vibrant technicolor dreamscapes. He’s developed a distinctive approach that captures the natural beauty of his homeland, including the undulating hills, deep hues of waterways and burnt mustard tones of sun-kissed fields. His artistic philosophy is refreshingly straightforward. He simply hopes to evoke calm and enjoyment through his work and garner artistic appreciation from his audience.
Drawing from a young age, Cordell didn’t decide to take up painting until attending university to study fine arts. His creative process involves building up layer upon layer of acrylic paint to achieve detailed and concise compositions, with a malleable acrylic base as his preferred medium. While considered an emerging artist, he’s gained international recognition, with pieces such as the one at hand selling over their estimate.
Some of our other favorites, from Phillips Modern & Contemporary Art: Online Auction on June 3, 2026 in Hong Kong, appear throughout the issue.
