HKEX Names Carl Wong as Head of External Communications | LeapRate
Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) announced on Monday that it has appointed Carl Wong as Managing Director, Head of External Communications.
Wong is set to join the exchange operator on 21 September 2026. In his new role, he will oversee HKEX’s external communications functions, including media relations, social media, content development and speechwriting. He will lead a dedicated team of communications and content specialists and will report to HKEX Group Chief Communications Officer, Jeffrey Ng.
Wong joins HKEX from Manulife, where he spent more than ten years in senior communications roles. Most recently, he held a dual position as Head of External Communications for Manulife Asia and Head of Communications, Asia, for Manulife Investment Management.
Commenting on the appointment, Jeffrey Ng said he was “delighted to welcome Carl to the HKEX family,” noting that Wong brings more than 25 years of experience across financial and corporate communications, spanning leadership counsel, issues management, digital storytelling and talent development. Ng added that Wong would be “a vital addition” as HKEX advances its strategy to build a multi-asset ecosystem supporting the long-term development of Hong Kong’s markets.
Before Manulife, Wong worked at Sun Hung Kai Properties and held senior positions at international public relations firms Fleishman-Hillard and Ketchum. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University in the United States.
The appointment comes as HKEX continues to build out its senior leadership team amid ongoing efforts to strengthen its market positioning and communications capabilities across the region.
