Chandigarh Bandh on August 21? Will Schools Remain Open? Check Holiday Updates
Private schools in Chandigarh & Other districts in Punjab will remain open on August 21. The Private School Association Punjab has clarified that schools will not observe a holiday because of the bandh call.
The association has advised private educational institutions to continue their normal functioning. Therefore, students attending private schools should report to school as usual unless their respective institution announces a separate change.
Colleges are not covered by the private-school advisory, so students should check with their individual college or university regarding classes and other scheduled activities.
There is no information in the bandh call indicating a blanket closure of all colleges across Punjab. Students who have examinations or other important academic commitments should confirm the schedule with their institution before travelling.
Markets and Shops Likely to Remain Closed
Markets are expected to remain closed during the bandh hours. The organisations supporting the shutdown have appealed for markets to suspend business between 7 am and 2 pm.
This means customers may find shops and commercial establishments unavailable during the protest period. People with non-essential shopping plans may therefore want to complete their purchases before the bandh or wait until after 2 pm.
Public Transport Services May Be Disrupted
Public transport is likely to be affected during the bandh. Organisers have called for transport services to remain closed and have also announced plans to stop road traffic.
As a result, people travelling by buses or other road-based public transport could face delays or difficulty reaching their destinations. Those with important journeys should make arrangements in advance and allow additional time.

Examinations: Students travelling for examinations will be allowed to travel.
Weddings: Wedding-related travel will be permitted.
Trains: Organisers have appealed for suspension of services; passengers should check before travelling.
